Shortlist Announced for the Best Green International Celebrity Award

After what is claimed was a phenomenal response to their online poll, the International Green Awards™ is pleased to announce the shortlist for the Best Green International Celebrity Award. Voting from the public has been overwhelming and it was very close between the nominated celebrities. However, three of these nominees received outstanding support and are thus part of this year’s shortlist, of which one person will be crowned an international green media ambassador.

This accolade carries with it the responsibility to continue to promote a global green agenda through the media. These shortlisted nominees have used their prominence to promote environmental and sustainable development issues and many are already known as global ambassadors for organisations such as United Nations Environment Programme and Oxfam International.

The top three voted celebrities in our 2011 shortlist are:

• Gisele Bündchen- Supermodel; Brazil
• Miguel Bose- Musician/actor; Spain
• Sir Paul McCartney- Musician, UK

From this shortlist, the candidate with the most votes will be crowned the winner at the International Green Awards™ showcase sustainable gala dinner and be heralded as the ‘greenest’ media exemplar internationally. The international nature of the shortlist highlights the significance of green and sustainable issues to these high profile global media figures. Shortlisted supermodel Gisele Bündchen commented; “I am blessed to have grown up in a family that embraced the importance of nature and community coexisting in harmony. My career in the public eye has given me the opportunity to raise awareness about important socio-environmental causes in the hope of promoting a more conscious relationship with our environment.”

The International Green Awards™ will be announcing this year’s winner at the iconic Natural History Museum, the most appropriate place to remind us of our relationship with the environment, on Thursday 24th November from 7pm. This year’s event will also be themed around the rainforest to coincide with the United Nations International Year of the Forest with state of the art visual projections.
